I came across this term on PMI.org when learning about how to manage digital transformation in project management. Who is a Citizen Developer you ask, this is someone who is not a technical developer but understands how to use technology to make their jobs more efficient by leveraging low code or node code solutions to facilitate the process.  Think of Larry from finance using macros to generate pivot tables and graphs in Microsoft excel.

In addition, the rise of low code no code solutions such as Zoho creator, UiPath, Google Appsheet and Microsoft PowerApp to name a few; makes it cost effective, agile and seamless for collaboration between business and IT.

The key purpose of the citizen developer domain in project management is to understand how to enable innovation by empowering non-technical creators within our organizations to be inventive while eliminating shadow IT and ultimately keeping our organizations secure as we introduce new technologies.
